At least when it comes to MVA's!
We had a call for an MVA with power lines down on one of our local highways, injuries unknown. (Just a sidebar here- have any of my readers that have been around since before cell phones have become so prolific noticed that we get the unknown injuries report more often? I think that with the cell phone, people will call it in without checking on anyone, seeing that as being as far as their responsibility as citizens go? Just musing....)
Upon arrival, a small pickup truck is in the ditch on the side of the road with the power poles, about 20 feet from the base of a pole that is snapped off about 20 feet up. According to the Batt. Chief, who made the scene first, there was still alcohol coming from an open container in the vehicle.
The right side of the truck is caved in about a foot, and the A and B pillars are both folded inward from the top of the door a bit. Pretty good mechanism of injury, huh? FUNNY VIDEO HERE
Well, of course, since the guy was plastered, he walked away with no injuries. Well, kind of staggered. At least until the Sherriffs Deputies slapped those pretty silver bracelets on him and gave him a free ride downtown!
On a side not, we have a rescue engine that is supposed to go first due to MVA's. Lately that has not been happening, and it is the same guy who keeps ignoring this directive. Anyone want to hazard a guess??
We had to wait on scene for a good little bit until the local power company cleared all the wires off the road, as the PD took off and left us there due to a robbery in progress a few miles away.
We had more fun over the weekend, and I hope to post again today maybe..........

I don't know about where you are, but here in Maine, folks will call on the cell because if they wait till they get home, it could be 25 minutes. We'd rather get an early heads-up on an unknown injuries call then wait for someone else to (a) find it, (b) decide to get involved, (c) check the occupants, and (d) get it wrong calling it in.
